An increasing number of people are behind with their loan and credit card payments and mortgage arrears are rapidly rising.

The consequences of having mortgage arrears is that you could ultimately lose your home. The mortgage company will provide some time for you to repay the arrears or present a case of financial difficulty to them. You may be able to negotiate an arrangement to pay when you pay less than the required amount for a short period of time.

Unfortunately, debt problems associated with credit cards and loans can cause an enormous amount of stress and worry. These types of unsecured debts can quickly be passed over to debt recovery agencies when you fall behind with your debt payments. These agencies employ very aggressive tactics to recovery their money and will seldom be interested in your personal problems. The credit crunch has made this situation worse as people with debt problems can no longer remortgage or capital raise to pay their unsecured debts off.

If you have serious debt problems then you should seek debt advice rather than ignore the problem in the hope it will disappear. With debts, missed payments and arrears it is better to continue talking to the debt companies rather than hope they will forget about you.

Debt advice and debt solutions for credit card and loan problems can be provided by a Debt Management Plan. A debt management plan is drawn up by a debt adviser based on what you can afford to pay the credit card and loan companies. Your debt management company effectively steps in to take over the management of your debts so you don’t have to.  They should be able to negotiate reduced payments for all of your unsecured debts and stop the accruing interest on outstanding balances.

Debt Management Plans are personalised to each customer and your debt adviser will continue to work with you to help solve your debt problems. Please click here to read more about Debt Management.
