Your credit file

If you are experiencing problems when applying for mortgages or credit facilities then obtaining a copy of your credit file could be a good place to start.

This credit file will let you know what a potential lender will see when they carry out a credit search.
It may be that an entry has been made which is incorrect or actually relates to someone other than yourself. The credit reference agencies listed below will not normally delete or amend credit records. They rely on the information passed to them from financial institutions. The best place to start with a disputed item is the finance house themselves.

Credit Reference Agencies

The two main credit reference agencies are Equifax and Experian. For a cost of £2 you can obtain a copy of your credit file in approximately 7-10 days. You will need to provide your full name and address plus previous addresses over the last six years.
